Anti-Fraud subscribes to NEIWA's Declaration of Valencia to strengthen the role of whistleblowers and the organizations that protect them

The Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA) has issued some recommendations, which affect the importance of whistleblowing as a mechanism to fight corruption

22nd april 2024. The Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia has participated in the 9th General Assembly of the Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA), held in Valencia on the 18th and 19th of April.

In this meeting, the NEIWA network approved the Valencia Declaration, which encourages the competent authorities to support and protect whistleblowers with recommendations, which point to the importance of whistleblowing as a mechanism to fight corruption and to strengthen the role of whistleblowers.

In this sense, the Declaration also calls on legislators, governments and all those involved in the implementation process to support whistleblowers and to strengthen authorities for the integrity and protection of whistleblowers.

On the other hand, the General Assembly of NEIWA regrets that one of its members, the Office for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption in the Balearic Islands, has been dissolved by law on 26.3.2024. This meeting also served to present the results of different working groups in the network.

The NEIWA network currently consists of 37 authorities from 26 countries, after four new members were approved: the Federal Institute for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights of Belgium, the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Georgia, the Office for Whistleblowers of Luxembourg and the Ombudsman of Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (Belgium).

The Network encourages to collaborate, exchange experiences and knowledge in the field of integrity and whistleblowing, in particular the protection and support of whistleblowers and the promotion of independent, responsible, transparent and accessible mechanisms to report misconducts that affects the public interest.
